Istanbul and Cappadocia offer two very different ways to spend a first visit to Türkiye. This guide concentrates on those two bases instead of combining city, coast and countryside into a rushed week. The itinerary and pacing are our editorial suggestions, designed to be adapted around your confirmed travel arrangements.
Istanbul: build days around districts
Istanbul stretches across Europe and Asia, and its neighborhoods offer different perspectives on the city. The official tourism guide groups visits into the Historic Peninsula, Beyoğlu, the Asian Side, the Bosphorus and historic bazaars. Use those areas to organize your days rather than repeatedly crossing the city for individual sights.
Our suggestion is to dedicate one day to the Historic Peninsula, another to Beyoğlu and a third to a water-focused outing or an Asian-side neighborhood. Give each day a specific starting point and leave time to explore around it. For visits to places of worship, check current visitor arrangements and follow posted guidance on dress, photography and prayer-time access.

Cappadocia brings together unusual rock formations, historic places and regional craft traditions. The official destination guide presents it as a place to explore through scenery, local food and experiences such as a cave stay. Choose what interests you before filling the schedule with organized outings.
Our suggestion is to give a landscape outing and a cultural visit separate blocks, with time for a slower meal in between. For any outdoor activity, check conditions and access locally. If a balloon experience is a priority, confirm the operator’s weather and cancellation policy and keep another activity in mind. Treat it as an optional part of the trip rather than the only reason to visit.

Days 1–4: Istanbul. Keep arrival day local, then divide the remaining days between the historic center, another district and a flexible outing. Put just one major reservation on each day and fit your meals and neighborhood walks around it.
Day 5: transfer to Cappadocia, including the journey to your accommodation. Days 6–7: combine landscape and cultural visits with downtime. Day 8: depart or return toward your international flight. Do not treat a domestic transfer as a free sightseeing day: compare the full door-to-door timing and leave a sensible connection buffer. If the journey feels tight, spend the whole week in one region instead.
Choose your base around the journey
Before booking, ask where you will arrive, how you will reach the hotel and how you will get around the next morning. Save the airport name and code, accommodation address and transfer meeting point. If you book separate travel legs, read the change and cancellation terms for each one rather than assuming they work as a single ticket.
For accommodation, compare transport convenience alongside room style. A memorable stay works best when you understand its location and access. If stairs, slopes or walking distances matter to your party, ask the property for specific details before paying. The same approach applies to tours: check actual pickup arrangements and the amount of walking involved.
Budget for your priorities
Separate the essentials—rooms, transfers, food and local transport—from optional experiences. Price those experiences individually before deciding how much time and money to allocate. This avoids building the trip around an activity that later crowds out everything else.
Keep bookings and receipts together and review the final currency and payment terms before confirming. Use current official venue pages for entry arrangements rather than an old screenshot or a copied itinerary. Leave some unallocated time and budget for an experience you discover after arrival; a good plan should make space for curiosity.
Keep the practical details close
Save accommodation and pickup details offline, particularly before moving between regions. Share your arrival information with your travel companions and keep essential confirmations accessible without mobile data.
For an eSIM, check device compatibility, coverage, activation timing and validity against your actual dates. A daily allowance is not the same as one pool of data for the whole trip. The Türkiye destination preview below lets you explore the upcoming catalog; retail sales are not open yet.
